The modern types of kitchen countertops have been one of my top concerns. These countertops play a big role in determining how a kitchen will look like at the end of the day. Every kitchen countertop has its own pros and cons that really make me an undecided person.
I appreciate the different art, I really hope I end up with one decision for my kitchen. I can only imagine how my kitchen will look like. This guide will be useful to me and any other person interested in one of these countertops.
Let us now explore the art of kitchen countertops and see their different pros and cons of each. From granite to laminate, to marble, Corian, Butcher block and even Quartz. Each is special in its own way.
1. Stainless steel countertops
This type of kitchen countertop is easy to match in your kitchen. They are common to find because they are easier to clean. These countertops are also very durable and this is why they are mostly found in commercial kitchens.
Stainless steel countertops are widely preferred because they do not stain as compared to others. They have an appealing surface that does not require regular resealing. It is also durable and it does not chip easily causing a different look.
2. Concrete countertops
This kitchen countertop allows homeowner to become creative. As a homeowner you can add tiles and even embedded glass. Imagine having a countertop that can still be added beauty with a range of material. Concrete is ideal because of its durability and it also adds some artistic work to your kitchen.
3. Soap stone countertops
Soap stones are usually grey and black stones that feel soapy.
4. Quartz Countertops
The name originates from the mineral Quartz but these countertops are made in a factory from stone. They require less maintenance because they have a nonporous surface. Worry not about stains, these countertops are stain resistant.
Quartz however is not heat friendly. Hot materials around it will lead to discoloration of the surface and change the outlook. It is advisable that we keep hot pots and pans away from quartz countertops.
5. Butcher block countertops
This ones are also very thick and appealing wood. This countertops are natural. They can be used in any kitchen but are ideal for your wood house and if you love green home.
Regular resealing is a must otherwise mold and bacteria will take over. They therefore require constant maintenance. Wooden countertops are also not heat friendly, therefore hot materials are not advisable.
6. Marble countertops
Marble is an ideal décor style of kitchen countertops because it adds polish to your kitchen. Marble is easy to incorporate with almost any décor. Just like wood, they require resealing after some time. Beware of marble as they can stain easily.
Marble can easily get stained especially when everything is put on it, it requires carefulness around it because wine can also stain it. However, marble is easy to decorate the kitchen.
7. Corian countertops
Corian is a mixture of polyesters and acrylics. These ones come in variety of colors although they are made in such a way they tend to look like natural stone. This material is not heat friendly so you should take care of hot pot and pans in the kitchen.
8. Granite countertops
The uniqueness of these countertops is that each is different from the other. They are from naturally occurring materials. Granite countertops are quite expensive despite the fact that they are very popular.
Granite is preferable but they are disastrous when they chip. It is very hard to repair a chipped granite surface. Extra care is necessary so heavy materials/items are not dropped on it.
9. Laminate countertops
Ever heard of Formica? This is just another name for laminate and not any different as others put it.
This name means paper and resin has been combined under high pressure and heat.
They are relatively cheap and they come in different designs. Laminate countertops do not last. They chip very easily and stain as compared to other types of kitchen countertops.
10. Choosing kitchen countertops
When choosing kitchen countertops it is advisable that you begin with what you choose what works for you best. Put into consideration the level of art desired, the durability of the product and the maintenance requirement of the product.
Wow Quartz looks soo different and unique. I have been wanting to redo my countertops but I just don’t understand how quartz is priced. Do the prices vary by color or more of size?

I loved the natural look of butcher block countertops that you displayed in your article. The fact that I was already aiming for a “Green Home” design this year as part of my home remodeling project makes me feel like countertops like these are a perfect choice for my kitchen.
